Pop, Snap and Break: The Jewelry Set of Broken Dreams

Let me start off this post by saying that I absolutely adore the B. Toys brand. We own – and love – a ton of their products, and the Battat Grocery Cart and B. Woofer Guitar easily make our “Top Five Best Toys” list. But one toy we are NOT a fan of is the B. Toys B.eauty Pops Snap Bead Jewelry Set.

We ordered this toy as a Christmas gift for my 3-year-old, thinking it would be the perfect combination of arts & crafts and pretend play. And to be clear, my daughter loves this jewelry set – but from the moment we opened the jar, I knew we were going to have a problem.
In the blink of an eye, all 150 pieces of said bead kit somehow found their way into every crevice of our living room, and since many of the pieces were odd shapes, we didn’t even know what we were supposed to be looking for. That part is my fault, but the rest wasn’t.

Every time we’d try to connect the pieces, we’d either break an essential (flimsy) piece of plastic off one piece or we’d be incapable of keeping the other side attached to its neighbor. Some of the pieces were longer than others, which gave them absolutely no “bend,” so when you tried turning them into a necklace or bracelet (you know, the whole “jewelry set” part?), a different section would break off and you’d have to start over again.

I totally agree that I’m not the most patient person in the world, but after the 6th or 7th broken piece, I finally came to the realization that it wasn’t just me and that maybe this product wasn’t made particularly well.

There are other sets out there that get better reviews and, while more expensive, are probably better worth your investment. Learn from my mistakes and get something a bit more resilient because you’ll get much more use from it in the long run.
